A woman in China found herself in possibly the most awkward situation ever when she discovered that her foot had gotten stuck within her car’s steering wheel.
After two long hours of futile attempts to free her foot, she had no option but to contact firefighters, who thankfully managed to rescue her from her predicament.
Trapped foot
Speaking to local media, the woman named Song said she had just finished lunch and decided to take a short nap in her car before picking up a friend.
As a force of habit, she reclined the driver’s seat and rested her foot on the steering wheel. While adjusting her wrinkled clothes, her foot accidentally slipped through one of the gaps between the steering wheel spokes.
Initially, Song didn’t think it was a big deal, but when she tried pulling her foot out, she saw that the paddle shifter behind the steering wheel had become lodged around her ankle.
While her foot could slide inward easily due to the angle, the paddle shifter blocked it from being pulled out, leaving her essentially trapped.
2 hours of trying
Song then called her friends for help via a video call and they gave several suggestions such as standing up and climbing out through the sunroof or squatting on the driver’s seat.
However, none of it worked.
Song also tried applying an entire tube of hand cream on her foot in hopes of minimising damage to both herself and the car, but it also proved to be useless.
The entire ordeal lasted for two hours, leaving her drenched in sweat and her foot beginning to swell.
Firefighters to the rescue
Song admitted that she didn’t think of contacting firefighters as she was too embarrassed to do so and didn’t want to trouble them. In the end, she relented after a friend urged her to call them.
In less than 10 minutes, firefighters turned up at the scene and worked to free Song’s foot from the steering wheel.
During the rescue operation, Song asked one of the firefighters whether they’d be posting footage of the incident online, prompting him to quip: ‘Don’t worry. We’ll put a beauty filter on you if we do so.”
Her friends, who were still on the video call throughout, also joked with firefighters by suggesting they could consider sawing Song’s foot off if they had trouble freeing it.
Thankfully, Song’s foot was finally released, although it sustained minor bruising.
