GEORGETOWN – A wild boar’s brief getaway was cut short by the Penang Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) after a video of it roaming along the streets of Gurney Drive went viral on social media today.
In the 9.05 am incident, the boar was first spotted at the Pulau Tikus market before trotting its way down to Gurney Drive.
Penang Civil Defence Force operations officer Captain Muhammad Aizat Abdul Ghani said the animal was later shot dead for the sake of public safety.
“We had to ask for Perhilitan’s help as the boar was aggressive and our five Civil Defence Force members were unable to capture it.
“The operation ended at 9.40 am after the wild boar was successfully shot,” he said in a statement.
Capt Muhammad Aizat added that no injuries or damage was reported as a result of the operation.
