Heard a black panther’s roar
According to the homeowner, she was shocked to hear what sounded like a tiger’s roar from the parking lot at around 3.30 pm.
She then looked out of the window and caught a glimpse of a large black animal, leading her to call the Fire And Rescue Department, where a team from the Semenyih Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) arrived within four minutes.
Bomba to the Rescue
Selangor Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis told Berita Harian that the team initially mistook the animal for a stray dog.
However, they were quickly proven wrong when the black panther pounced as they tried to approach it.
“The team quickly evacuated from the parking lot and installed a safety net with the help of personnel from the Semenyih police station.
“We also contacted the Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan), who arrived at 4.15 pm and tranquilised the animal,” he said.
Norazam added that the panther, which weighed 45kg, lost consciousness and was placed into a cage.
It was later handed over to Perhilitan for further action.
Norazam said the panther is believed to have wandered from a nearby forest located about one kilometre away from the housing area.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.
