“What About Me?”- M’sian Who Wore Baju Kebaya To Mt Everest Upset Over Not Going Viral Like Japanese Who Wore A Suit To Mt Kinabalu

"If they're from Japan, you're amazed."

A Malaysian woman expressed her disappointment that her accomplishment of conquering the Annapurna Base Camp in Nepal while wearing traditional Malay attire, Baju Kebaya, did not receive the same attention as a Japanese man who recently conquered Mount Kinabalu in his work suit.

The man, Nobutaka Sada, just last month, gained internet fame for climbing Mount Kinabalu in a business suit and leather shoes to promote his brand’s quality.

The feat seemed nearly impossible, yet he pulled it off. However, it seems he wasn’t the first to conquer mountain peaks in unconventional attire.

However, Shikin claims that she had already accomplished something similar, if not more impressive, six years prior to Sada’s feat.

Shikin, a Malaysian woman who took things even further than Sada and well before his viral ascent.

The Travel Jimat Twitter page spotlighted Shikin’s story, who was disheartened that Sada’s stunt gained more attention when she had already donned traditional Baju Kebayas while reaching the base camps of Annapurna and Everest in Nepal.

“Y’all are amazed because he is from Japan”

Shikin proudly stated, “If they’re from Japan, you’re amazed. Rallying in praising Nobutaka Sada for wearing a suit at the peak of Mount Kinabalu. How about this? A Malay (and a female somemore) did it before him. In 2017, I had already done it la, 6 years ago.”

She went on to clarify that she had not only scaled Annapurna Basecamp in Nepal but also Khumjung Village, above the Namchee Bazaar on the way to Everest Basecamp – both while wearing her Kebayas.

Shikin added, “I wore my own Kebayas. Don’t even think I was trying to promote traditional clothing; I haven’t even managed to effectively promote myself up until now.”

Shikin looks stunning in her Kebayas as she ventures to heights that few Malaysians have reached.

Hats off to Shikin for making Malaysia proud and showing the world that tradition and adventure can go hand in hand!
