‘We Need To Have The Spirit To Work’ — Anwar Says There Will Be No Extra Raya Holiday

Another sad news.
Aside from the weekends, another kind of ‘off days’ that Malaysians will always look forward to are public holidays, especially during the festive season.

However, it seems that the hopes of those expecting for an extra holiday for Raya has effectively been dashed following an announcement by prime minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar: No extra Raya holiday

This year, the first and second day of Hari Raya falls on Apr 10 and 11, which is a Wednesday and Thursday respectively. As such, many are hoping that the government would declare Apr 12 as a holiday as well.

Alas, that possibility is now impossible as Anwar has confirmed that no extra holiday will be given as doing so will cause Malaysians to be sluggish at work.

We need to have the semangat (spirit) for work,” he said as quoted by Astro Awani.

He made the announcement while attending an Iftar event at Putrajaya alongside 10,000 attendees on Nuzul Al-Quran yesterday (Mar 28).

Another major announcement which was made in relation to Hari Raya was that civil servants will not be getting Raya bonuses this year as the RM2,000 incentive was already given back in February.
