I still can’t believe I had the chance to dive into a military-style adventure last week—and it was absolutely surreal!
Last Wednesday (Sept 18), the WeirdKaya team embarked on an unforgettable military-style adventure at ESCAPE Ipoh, nestled in the lush greenery of Batu Gajah.
If you haven’t heard of this place yet, get ready because it’s the ultimate fun destination for people of all ages—no exceptions!
With rides and games that cater to thrill-seekers and laid-back explorers alike, there’s no age limit to the excitement at ESCAPE Ipoh.
What was the real highlight?
We had the exclusive honour of being one of the first to try the brand-new MILITARY-STYLE OBSTACLE RACE COURSE!
And it wasn’t just about the obstacles. We got fully kitted out in authentic military gear, from berets to uniforms and even a backpack. Now, how cool is that?
Bursting with NS nostalgia
As a former National Service (NS) participant, this brought back all kinds of nostalgic memories for me.
When we arrived at the base camp, we stashed our bags safely inside the tents and joined up with some of the abang-abang and akak-akak bomba, along with 20 eager participants and several course instructors.
We were then guided by an instructor who was with us every step of the way, ensuring we were prepared for the challenges ahead.
After a few lively warm-up games, we were split into two teams: Team Alpha, dressed in Digital Woodland camo, and Team Beta, rocking the Digital Desert camo.
We even came up with our own team cheers before suiting up and marching towards the obstacle course—it was like being in an actual military camp!
Let the race begin!
The obstacle course featured two difficulty levels: Beginner and Advanced.
The beginners started with a slightly easier (but still tough!) set of challenges. However, we had to skip one obstacle due to the heat, but trust me, the rest made up for it!
When it was time for the Advanced level, that was when things really kicked up a notch.
Nine people from each team had to face tougher obstacles, with one person handling two challenges. It was intense, but that’s what made it so rewarding!
More fun ahead
Of course, no trip to ESCAPE Ipoh is complete without trying all the other adventurous activities.
Before hitting the rides, we rented an e-bike as ESCAPE Ipoh is super huge and you’ll need a good mode of transportation to zip around.
If you’re not comfortable with e-bikes, they also have bicycles and e-scooters for rent.
We then headed to various activity zones like Zip Coaster, Water Sports, Tubby Racer, and more!
We also wanted to try our hand at the Monkey Business and Flying Lemur, but unfortunately, the heavens opened, and heavy rain halted our fun.
A perfect BBQ finale
The BBQ session that followed was the ultimate treat. After battling the heat, rain, and thrilling activities, digging into a hot BBQ meal was just what we needed to wrap up our day at ESCAPE Ipoh.
ESCAPE Ipoh is a multi-day attraction with over 20 rides and activities, plus camping options for those looking to extend their adventure.
If you’re keen on an overnight stay, their Base Camp comes fully equipped with tents, toilets, showers, parking, and a BBQ pit—at no extra cost!
There are various package options, from 1-day to 2-days 1-night and even 3-days 2-nights, so if you’re up for a multi-day experience, this is definitely something you should look into.
Be sure to visit their website or follow them on Facebook and Instagram for all the latest info.
All in all, visiting ESCAPE Ipoh is totally worth the trip. Time to make your next adventure one to remember!
