A group of mallgoers were condemned on social media after they were seen taking apart a LEGO structure at Sunway Carnival Mall in Penang despite a sign clearly telling them not to do so.
Les-go destroy stuff?
The LEGO structure was originally formed as “I ❤️ Sunway Carnival” on Aug 13 as part of the mall’s ‘Snap & Win’ contest, where visitors can take a selfie with it.
A sign was also placed near the structure, where it told shoppers not to lean on the blocks and not to remove or move the blocks.
Unfortunately, it all fell on deaf ears as several shoppers of all ages were seen pulling apart the LEGO structure and using the pieces to make their own creations.
Following the incident, the mall’s staff had to reassemble the structure again to its original design.
The structure was also cordoned off from the public with barricades to avoid similar incidents from happening again.
Differing opinions
Shortly after the incident went viral, netizens took to social media to express their thoughts on the matter.
“2nd world country with 3rd world mentality. This is why we never get nice things.”
“Barbarians. Even if there wasn’t a sign, people should know exhibits placed at public spaces should not be simply touched.”
On the other hand, some believed that the visitors probably didn’t understand the sign in English and said that it should have been written in multiple languages.
“Should write in more languages. Not many people understand English.”
