In a surprising turn of events, Malaysians are getting a taste of winter right in their backyard!
While actual snowfall in Malaysia might sound like a fairy tale, visitors to Genting Highland know that anything is possible.
Feel the snow, regardless of its authenticity
But let’s face it, not everyone has the time or resources to travel there, particularly those in the Klang Valley.
Now, the recent viral TikTok sensation by @hazmiftw, which has garnered a whopping 1.4 million views is the chance for Malaysians who want to get taste of it.
The video features an astonishing sight: “It’s snowing at KLCC.” For 14 seconds, viewers are mesmerised by the iconic Petronas Twin Towers and neighbouring buildings engulfed in what appears to be a magical snowfall.
Amidst the festive season, the video also showcases stunning Christmas trees, adding to the winter wonderland ambiance. This spectacle has understandably caused quite a stir of excitement.
Until January 1st 2024
But here’s the real deal: from December 20th to January 1st, 2024, Avenue K, near KLCC, is transforming into a snowy paradise.
This event occurs daily for 15 minutes from 7:45 PM to 8:00 PM on weekdays, with an additional session at 8:30 PM on weekends.
How does it feel?
Speaking to WeirdKaya, Hazmi, the creator of the viral video, revealed that this ‘snow’ is actually made of foam.
Yet, it offers a semblance of the real experience, complete with the typical coolness associated with snow, though the temperature remains characteristically humid.
This festive spectacle is part of a larger initiative by Avenue K shopping mall, complete with promotions to celebrate the Christmas season. It’s an invitation to experience the closest thing to snow in a typically tropical climate.
‘It feels like you’re in New York’
The community’s reaction has been overwhelmingly positive, with many sharing their thoughts online.
Comments range from concerns for the cleaners who have to manage the foam to exhilaration about experiencing snow in Malaysia.
Some even compare the experience to being in New York, while others humorously speculate about its authenticity.
