Resorting to violence is never the answer to solving problems, no matter who’s in the right or wrong.
A recent viral video on X (formerly Twitter) has sparked widespread outrage after it showed a group of motorists ganging up and assaulting an elderly man in broad daylight.
Elderly M’sian man assaulted by group of motorists
In the video shared by a netizen named @MohamadYusofBi6, it showed the elderly man being confronted by an angry motorist clad in t-shirt and jeans.
As the confrontation went on, the motorist landed a fist on the old man’s car, causing him to fall backwards slightly.
Another man, believed to be a passenger of the old man’s car, quickly rushed over and tried to reason with the motorist but soon found himself surrounded by two other men who came out of a silver Hilux.
Things escalated further with the motorist landing a kick to the old man’s stomach while the passenger got slapped by one of the men who emerged from the Hilux.
Alleged to have been drunk
While details of what caused the altercation remains unclear, a netizen claimed that the elderly man was at fault.
According to information garnered from her brother, she claimed that the old man had run a red light and rammed into a van carrying several students, causing them to suffer injuries.
She also alleged that the old man tried to flee the scene and reeked of alcohol.
Netizens condemn the violence
In the comment section, netizens were disheartened to see the public display of violence and crticised those who assaulted the elderly man.
‘The issue is not about being young or old. The question is, why is there a need to beat people? If an accident occurred, claim insurance. Why is there a need to make a scene?’
‘Stupid. Act like a gangster towards an elderly man, but how about someone of equal standing? He’d probably be the first one to hide in the car. He should have taken the issue to the police station to settle it. Now he has to explain why he hit the uncle.‘
No reports lodged so far
In a statement by Kajang district Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zaid Hassan, he said police have yet to receive a report about the incident which took place at a traffic light at Pelangi Semenyih 2, reported Sinar Harian.
He added that the cause of the accident was due to a brake failure on the old man’s Proton Saga, causing it to crash into a school bus and a BMW.
The case is being investigated under  Rule 17 167/59 and those with information are urged to contact investigating officer, Inspector Narol at 0195897115.
