A woman in Sungai Long recently sparked controversy when she threw a Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) student’s phone and money at the police after her vehicle was clamped due to illegal parking.
What happened
The incident, which took place near the UTAR Sungai Long Campus, began when the woman approached a group of students who were conducting street interviews, demanding to borrow a phone to call her daughter for help after her car was clamped by the authorities.
In a now-deleted video circulating online, the woman can be seen grabbing the student’s phone, and hurling them onto the road, when her request was not obliged.
This act of aggression was caught on camera by a passerby and was later shared anonymously on the UTAR Confession 2022/2023 Facebook group, resulting in widespread condemnation.
Woman refuses to cooperate with police officers
The situation escalated when the police arrived at the scene to investigate. The woman refused to cooperate with the officers, demanding that they remove their helmets and masks in a show of respect, while also complaining about her hunger and her need to return home.
Speaking to WeirdKaya, a bystander who wished to remain anonymous shared that the woman not only verbally abused the students as they were describing the incident to the police and even slapped one of them, inciting outrage from the onlooking crowd.
Many onlookers at the scene also spotted recording the woman’s many inappropriate behaviors, including assaulting the police, swearing, or slapping the person involved.
As the police tried to apprehend her, she attempted to barricade herself in her clamped vehicle, hitting an officer with a sunshade and throwing a sock at them.
With the help of additional police forces, the woman was eventually escorted to the police station for further questioning.
