It was a sad occasion for a University of Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) graduand after his father passed away six hours before the convocation ceremony began.
Had a heart attack
Speaking to Kosmo!, 27-year-old Muhammad Hafiz Mokhtar said that his father Mokhtar Mat Isa, 65, suffered a heart attack at around 1pm yesterday (Oct 1).
“When I saw my father’s condition deteriorate, I rushed him to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) but he passed away while on the way there,” he said.
Moving on
Despite the pain of losing his father six hours before the convocation ceremony, Muhammad Hafiz soldiered on and went to receive his Bachelor of Social Sciences (Anthropology and Dakwah) with Honors from UniSZA.
Muhammad Hafiz, who’s the third child in the family, said that he and his parents left their home in Kampung Selayang Baru, Selangor on Sunday (Oct 30) for the convocation.
He added that his father was especially thrilled to see him at the ceremony as he was the first out of his siblings to graduate from university.
“My father was excited to visit the attractions in Terengganu and I never thought that it would be my last sweet memory of him,” he said.
Outpouring of sympathy
Netizens have since taken to Facebook to express their condolences for Muhammad Hafiz’s loss and wished him all the best in his future endeavors.
Our deepest condolences to Muhammad Hafiz over the passing of his father. RIP.
