Known to be the capital city and pride of all Malaysians, Kuala Lumpur has long built its reputation among the international community for its bustling and lively atmosphere.
A TikToker recently claimed that KL is a much safer city compared to most cities in the US but it has been meet with much skepticism from netizens.
TikToker claims KL is a safer city compared to the US
In the clip uploaded by the TikToker who goes by the name of @anti.prophet on Instagram, he shared how he thinks KL is a much affordable and safer place compared to the US.
“I was looking at some rent prices and you can rent something like a nice two bedroom apartment in a high-rise in a really nice part of town for just USD600 (RM2,793.48) a month.
“Kuala Lumpur is also a pretty developed city…great food, great malls, great culture. Very safe compared to somewhere like Latin America, where you can find similar prices.
But ultimately, you’re living in a place where you can walk outside with your phone or wallet without fear of getting it stolen,” he said.
Mixed reactions from M’sians
In the comment section, a majority of netizens didn’t seem to agree with the TikToker’s opinion that KL was much safer than the US.
One shared how her friend who hailed from KL had her purse stolen when her car’s passenger window was smashed with a brick and added that the city was rife with police corruption.
Another expressed skepticism over the TikToker’s claim that one could rent a two-bedroom apartment for just USD600.
