The issue of missing children is a harrowing reality that many families face globally. In Malaysia, the disappearance of children and teens has become a growing concern, with new cases emerging regularly.
The emotional and psychological toll on families is immense, and the need for effective awareness and prevention strategies is more urgent than ever.
Recently, a tweet from @lorettabagg went viral, shedding light on Malaysia’s missing children.
Missing children and teens since 2010
The tweet revealed a link to the Official Missing Children Portal maintained by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), which tracks cases of missing children and teens since 2010.
“If you didn’t know, PDRM has a database of missing kids. These are a few from July alone. Some kids are never found again,” the tweet read.
The statistics are distressing: in July 2024 alone, nearly 20 children and teens have gone missing in Malaysia, and many remain unaccounted for.
The latest case to come to light is that of Nurul Aishah Farhana Azni, a teenage girl who was last seen on July 24 at Sakon Thai, a restaurant in Bandar Utama Batang Kali, Selangor.
The tweet by @lorettabagg sparked a wave of responses from concerned netizens.
One user asked, “Why aren’t these highlighted regularly like the way they used milk cartons in the USA those days?”
Another user expressed gratitude for the information, saying, “Thanks for sharing. Wasn’t aware, and very concerning.”
A particularly touching comment read, “Poor parents, they can’t sit still or sleep, thinking about where their children are every day.”
