Taiwanese influencer Hugo Liu is dropping some serious foodie fact on Instagram, declaring Malaysia’s Bak Kut Teh as the ultimate comfort bowl over Singapore’s.
He’s all about the herbs and sweetness in the Malaysian version, which reminds him of Taiwanese medicinal dishes.
“Better than Singapore”
“Malaysian Bak Kut Teh with its mix of herbs and gentle sweetness, is better than the Singaporean version,” he said.
Hugo further elaborates in the caption that although both cuisines come from the same lineage, Malaysian cuisine is absolutely more delicious than Singapore’s.
He also believes this is not a controversial topic that would upset many people.
“If you ask any passerby in Singapore, everyone will give the same answer. ‘Yes! Malaysian food is indeed better than Singapore’s.'”
Malaysian Bak Kut Teh
Not a fan of the spicy life, he’s giving two thumbs up to Malaysia for keeping it mild and flavorful.
“Similar to the sales method of Taiwanese braised dishes, Malaysian-style Bak Kut Teh allows you to choose ingredients.” Hugo commented.
“Those who like fattier meat can order pork belly, and those who like innards can add large intestines. I personally recommend that you must try the dough fritters. Paired with the medicinal herb soup base, it’s unbelievably delicious.” He said.
“There’s also a very special option, which is the dry version of Bak Kut Teh, using the reduced Bak Kut Teh broth as a sauce, stir-fried with various pork ingredients, it is super fragrant!” Hugo said.
Best place for Bah Kuh Teh
“Every time I come to Kuala Lumpur, I always go to this place – Yik See Ho Bak Kut Teh. “
According to Hugo, the restaurant looks very unassuming, but the pork is super fresh, and the soup is just right.
