A recent social media uproar has been triggered by a netizen who reported being charged 1 SGD (RM3.60) for a cup of hot water at a coffee shop in Sengkang General Hospital.
The incident, detailed in a post on the Facebook group COMPLAINT SINGAPORE on May 10, has sparked widespread debate over what many consider an unreasonable price for a simple necessity.
$1 for a cup of water
In the photo shared online, two drinks were shown along with their respective receipts, showcasing the prices.
One showed a charge of $2.20 (around RM7.92) for a Kopi C and $2 (around RM7.20) for, while the other receipt listed a $1 charge for just a cup of hot water.
“I don’t think this pricing should set a standard for others to follow. It’s an unnatural form of inflation,” the netizen remarked, providing two receipts.
Netizens’ reaction
The post quickly attracted significant attention, with many netizens chiming in.
Some argued that the $1 fee covers labour, service, and cleaning costs, while others suggested that a more reasonable charge would be 50 cents.
