Although Hari Raya is slightly more than a week away, many Malaysians are feeling the pinch of soaring prices and stagnating wages, which has dampened their festive spirit.
A woman recently let her thoughts be known about her difficulties in coping with the current cost of living to the most powerful man in Malaysia – prime minister Anwar Ibrahim himself!
M’sian woman rants about high living costs to Anwar
In a TikTok video posted by @wanpakyatowingperlis yesterday (Apr 1), it showed Anwar paying a visit to a Ramadan bazaar, where he was thronged by hundreds of people as he was about to get into his car.
A makcik, who was part of the crowd, sensed an opportunity to confront Anwar about her grouses about the cost of living and quickly took it, where she could be heard saying:
Everything is becoming more expensive. You need to pay more attention to it!
Anwar heard what she had said and acknowledged her by nodding and offering a reassuring smile.
When the makcik told Anwar that the bazaar was crowded more than usual due to his visit, he jokingly asked whether he should stop by the bazaar everyday, to which she replied, “Yes, you have to come here every day.”
Despite airing her grievances moments before, the makcik chose to conclude her interaction with Anwar with a heartfelt “I love you, bye!” as he entered the car.
Netizens left stunned
The video has since garnered 1 million views at the time of writing along with thousands of comments from netizens.
Many were awed by the makcik’s courage in raising a question that has been on everyone’s mind to Anwar himself.
‘Finally there’s someone who has spoken up.’
‘She told him (Anwar) about our worries right to his face.’
