Giant 5.4M Wide Sinkhole Spotted At KLIA’s Bunga Raya Complex

No casualties or major disruptions were reported.
A massive sinkhole measuring 5.4 metres wide made its appearance in front of KLIA’s Bunga Raya complex this morning.

The incident was confirmed by the Ministry of Public Works (JKR), who shared several photos of the sinkhole and further information about it.

According to the Facebook post, the sinkhole was spotted today at a paved area between the entrance and exit of the complex, which is commonly used by VIP guests and dignitaries.

Despite the sinkhole, which was located along Federal Route 26, the road is still open for use for vehicles. However, temporary traffic control measures are currently in place to ensure public safety.

JKR also noted that the situation is under control and that no casualties or major disruptions were reported thus far.

Leaky sewage pipe believed to be the cause

Meanwhile, initial investigations suggest that a leaking sewer pipe is suspected to be the main cause for the sinkhole.

Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAB) has since been notified of the incident and they are currently looking into it.

JKR added that while the sinkhole appeared outside its and RoadCare’s maintenance jurisdiction, they are prepared to offer assistance to MAB if needed.

A detailed report regarding the sinkhole will also be prepared by MAB once investigations are complete.
