To pay off debts

Lawyer Muhammad Izzuddin Ab Malek from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) argued that the accused’s guilty plea saved time and costs, advocating for a chance at rehabilitation.

“The defendant, a single mother of four children, one of whom is mentally disabled, relies solely on RM400 monthly in zakat.

The defendant acknowledges stealing the items to settle her debts. So I request a lenient prison sentence that begins from the date of her arrest,” he said.

Following the presentation of arguments from both sides, the court handed down a sentence of eight months’ imprisonment, effective from the date of the arrest.
