The family of a 20-year-old Chinese national who was killed in an apartment unit in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, has denied claims that she was in a relationship with the suspect.
A woman believed to be a relative of the victim said the family did not know the suspect at all, and insisted that the victim had never met him either.
Family arrived at mortuary accompanied by lawyer
Reported by China Press, several men and women believed to be the victim’s family members arrived at the mortuary of Universiti Malaya Medical Centre at 12.10pm, accompanied by a lawyer, to get more information about the case.
They appeared visibly distressed, with some hugging each other and crying. They initially declined to speak to members of the media present.
“They did not know the suspect at all”
When reporters asked about the relationship between the victim and the suspect, one of the women responded emotionally, saying that they did not know him at all.
She also denied that the two were a couple, maintaining that the victim did not know the suspect.
She added that the family had just flown in from China and were still trying to understand the details of the case, and were waiting for the police investigation to be completed.
She also asked that the media refrain from focusing their reporting on the victim, and instead direct their attention to the suspect.
A lawyer representing the family said that she and the victim’s relatives were still trying to establish the actual facts of the case, and were not able to disclose further details at this time.
Police investigating under Section 302 of the Penal Code
According to earlier reports, police received an emergency call at 11.37am on the day before, in which a Chinese national claimed to have killed his Chinese girlfriend, also a Chinese national, inside an apartment unit.
Police rushed to the scene after receiving the report.
It was reported that the victim was confirmed to be a 20-year-old Chinese national, while the suspect is a 27-year-old Chinese national.
Police are investigating the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which covers murder.
