Living with neighbours can sometimes be challenging as you may find yourself interacting with individuals who will kick up a fuss over minor issues.
A woman in Singapore is at her wits’ end after she endured five straight years of harassment from her neighbour who would pound the adjoining wall whenever she cooks at home.
SG woman pounds on neighbour’s wall, claims cooking made her flat ‘too hot’
Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, the woman surnamed Li said her neighbour has been pounding away at the wall of her unit at Block 536 Upper Cross Street in Chinatown since 2019.
The reason? The neighbour claimed that her flat would become “too hot” whenever Li cooked at home.
I rarely eat out and usually cook at home, but she claimed my cooking makes her house hot and demanded that I stop.
“Although the pounding would only take place during mealtimes, now it has become more frequent and at odd timings.
“Even when I pray or watch TV, it seems to upset her. Sometimes, I hear the harsh knocks as early as 5am or as late as 1am, which startles me and makes my heart race,” she recounted.
Li said that when she went to confront the neighbour about the incessant knocking on Nov 12, the latter emerged with a laundry pole in her hand.
No end in sight
Li added that despite lodging multiple police reports, complaining to the authorities, and seeking help from her MP, the problem has not only remained but worsened.
My neighbour even came up to me and said: ‘If you cook, I will continue to knock.’
“Both her and I were actually supposed to meet up to resolve the issue on Nov 30, but she didn’t turn up. I don’t want to move. I just hope the relevant authorities can step in and help resolve this issue,” she said.
A reporter from Shin Min Daily News tried to reach out to the neighbour on two separate occasions but the latter refused to engage.
