Upset that her boyfriend was unable to spend time with her while on the job, a Singaporean woman resorted to filing a fake police report against him as payback.
Unfortunately, she would live to regret it as that same police report would see her being sentenced to jail for four days.
Prior tensions
According to Shin Min Daily News, 28-year-old Tang Pei Si (transliteration) had been dating her 60-year-old boyfriend, who works as a bus driver at the Hougang bus interchange, for 10 years.
Due to the nature of his job, Tang’s boyfriend would commute daily from Malaysia to Singapore by motorcycle.
If his shift was in the afternoon, he would bring lunch for Tang, who faced financial constraints, and dine with her at the interchange.
However, things between Tang and her boyfriend hadn’t been the best prior to the incident as Tang had just returned the S$400 (approx. RM1,200) she borrowed from him, only for her to change her mind and ask for the money back so she could buy clothes and shoes.
When he refused, she became deeply unhappy.
Throws tantrum
On Oct 6, 2024, Tang arrived at the interchange at 2pm for her boyfriend to bring her lunch. However, he only arrived at 2.25pm due to rainy weather.
After lunch, Tang’s boyfriend was about to return to work but was stopped by Tang, who pulled on his uniform as she was angry at him for not spending time with her.
At 2.43pm, Tang boarded bus service 112, which had her boyfriend at the wheel, and sat on the front seat. To her dismay, he ignored her throughout the trip.
Feeling slighted by her boyfriend “abandoning” her at the interchange and not giving her the S$400, Tang contacted police and claimed he had had stolen S$400 from her, hit her and twisted her left hand.
As a result, Tang’s boyfriend was forced to stop the bus and wait for police to turn up. Three passengers, who were also onboard, had no choice but to disembark and wait for the next bus.
Admitted to lying
During police investigations, Tang eventually confessed to filing a fake police report due to a personal relationship dispute.
On Aug 21, Tang pleaded guilty to one charge of filing a false report and was sentenced to four days in jail.
