Gone but not forgotten.
Being diagnosed with a terminal illness like cancer is devastating news for anyone as it’s a sign that the patient does not have much time left to spend with loved ones.

Unfortunately, the tumour was found to be too large to be surgically removed and Yiu was deemed unsuitable for cancer treatment, leading doctors to suggest palliative care instead.

In March 2023, Yiu was admitted to Assisi Hospice. At the same time, his wife was found to be pregnant with their child.

SG man does hand cast mould with his wife

Knowing that he won’t be able to witness the birth of his child, Yiu wanted to do something to have his wife and unborn child remember him by.

At his art therapist’s suggestion, Yiu decided to make a hand cast mould so that his future child could hold it in remembrance of him.

In the post, Yiu’s wife said he was extremely weak but soldiered on and even did another hand cast of him holding her hand.

A photo shared with the post showed Yiu’s wife sitting by the hospital bed and interlocking fingers with Yiu while their hands were dipped in the alginate mixture.

Died the next day

Sadly, Yiu’s condition deteriorated quickly and he died of cancer the next day, At his wake, the completed hand cast mould was given to his wife.

Assisi Hospice’s art therapists also made an artwork of Yiu’s family along with a recording of Yiu’s heartbeat for his future child to listen to.

The hand cast mould left a deep impression on Yiu’s wife, who said:

The hand cast looks very real, you can see the lines on his hand. When I miss him, I will look at his photos, and also the hand cast that we made.

Our condolences to Yiu’s family over his passing and we hope they will find peace through the hand cast mould he made.
