SG Man Allegedly Breaks Display Shelf At Johor Mall, Says There Wasn’t A ‘No Sitting’ Sign

Bruhh...
With Chinese New Year currently in full swing, many Singaporeans are travelling up north to Johor to celebrate the festive occasion, but not without causing some shenanigans in the process.

This was the case with a Singaporean man who allegedly damaged a display shelf at a Johor mall by sitting on it and refused to take any responsibility for the incident.

SG man allegedly breaks display shelf at Johor mall

The incident was captured in a 5-minute long Facebook video uploaded yesterday (Feb 13), where it showed the Singaporean man clad in a grey T-shirt and sunglasses being confronted by a staff member while walking at the Mid Valley Southkey mall.

As the staff tried to stop him from leaving and urged him to pay for the damaged shelf after he sat on it, the man continued to walk away while saying “I know the law” in Mandarin and claiming that the shelf had defects and injured him as a result.

However, the staff refused to relent and told him to stop running if he believed he was innocent, adding that there was video evidence to prove otherwise.

Eventually, the Singaporean man followed the staff back to the shop and there was a shelf whose base had completely given way and caused the items to fall off.

Refused to pay for damages

When the staff insisted that the man pay for the damage, the latter claimed that only the shelf’s paper wrapping was affected and refused to pay for other damage caused.

He also claimed his wrist was injured by the shelf he allegedly broke.

If you insist I have to pay, I can say that I was injured…But at this point I’m not suing you for the injury,” he added.

The man then tried to walk away from the scene but was held back as a staff member grabbed onto his backpack.

Claims there was no sign telling him not to sit

As the man and the staff continued to argue, the former claimed that the display shelf looked likes seats and that a sign should be placed telling customers not to sit on it.

However, his answer caused a staff member to reply “Use your brain! You are talking nonsense!” in disbelief as it was common knowledge that display shelves were not meant for sitting.

Mid Valley Southkey later confirmed the incident to Mothership and said they are currently investigating the matter.
