In the world of ride-hailing, clear communication is key to a smooth pickup.
But for one Grab driver in Singapore, a request for a clear pickup spot resulted in receiving a photo of a woman’s chest, leading to a cancelled ride and a S$4 consolation.
On a recent Monday evening (30 Oct), a Grab driver, who narrated the incident on the Complaint Singapore Facebook group, expected a routine pickup at Pavilion Square, located at 345 Geylang Road, to ferry a customer to Shaw House in Orchard.
Arriving at the supposed location around 7:54 PM, he reached out to his passenger for a precise pickup location.
An unexpected photo
To his surprise, he was met with an image of a woman’s chest.
Rather than clarifying her location with a descriptive message or image of the surrounding, the rider chose to send a revealing photo of herself in a tank top with a cutout at the chest.
The driver, caught off guard, informed the customer that the picture was not helpful.
Rider savagely replied
“You send picture of your breast no use. Send picture of the place.”
However, his message was caught in a filter for “inappropriate content,” likely due to the term used.
Seeking to avoid any further misunderstandings, the driver subtly altered his phrasing, substituting the direct term for a less formal slang.
It remains unclear whether the rider responded to this correction.
In the end, according to the driver’s account, the customer chose to cancel the ride. The driver was then issued a S$4 compensation, a small recompense for the unexpected and unusual interaction.
