Most Malaysians often rely on cleaners or waiters to clear their dishes after eating. While it’s their job to do so, it doesn’t hurt to do it yourself instead of waiting for them.
A Singaporean couple recently earned praise from netizens after a TikTok video showed them not only clearing their own table, but the one behind theirs as well.
Going the extra mile
In the 46-second clip, the couple can be seen cleaning up their own table after having their meal.
But instead of stopping there, the couple took the initiative to also do the same for the table behind them, where they picked up the tray filled with leftovers and trash as well as the empty plastic cups.
In an exclusive interview, the owner of Kopi Kueh, the kopitiam which shared the video on its TikTok account, told WeirdKaya that the couple is believed to be from Singapore.
The owner also said that he was very surprised by the couple’s actions as it was uncommon to see customers doing so.
Such acts of kindness are quite uncommon as most people typically only clear up their own table at restaurants.
“Many of our customers have always been kind enough to clear up their own plates, but these two good Samaritans did not hesitate to clear it up for others after eating,” he said.
When asked why he decided to share the video on social media, this was what the owner said:
It is important that we have more kindness and selfless acts in the world. I hope this video will raise awareness among many Malaysians as well.”

The clip has since gone viral on TikTok and garnered 76,000 views at the time of writing.
While the couple’s Singaporean identity is yet to be confirmed, one netizen said that their actions are quite common in Singapore.
One netizen asked the kopitiam owner to hire the couple immediately, to which the latter replied by saying that he didn’t manage to ask for their resume.
Another wrote: ‘If I was the boss, I would have paid for their meal.’
