We all personally have a fast food chain that’s our favorite, but are you big enough of a fan to hold your wedding according to the restaurant’s theme?
This was what a couple in Singapore did by organising their wedding in the presence of their friends and family complete with a KFC chicken buffet, flower bouquet, and decorations.
First met a a KFC outlet
According to Mothership, Heather Wong and Xie Peng crossed paths with each other on a dating app earlier this year and had their first date at a KFC outlet in Lot One, a mall in Choa Chu Kang.
From that day on, they would continue to meet up for dates at KFC occasionally.
Wong told Mothership that her love for KFC began when she was a little girl, where her parents would often buy the KFC sharing bucket for their entire family of six.
Since then, KFC has become her “comfort food”, where her personal favorite was the hot and crispy chicken.
Got engaged in August
Less than a year into their relationship, Wong and Xie got engaged on Aug 12, which came as a surprise to Wong’s friends.
Wong, who is wheelchair-bound, explained that Xie’s personality, especially his “very high empathy”, was what caused her to fall for him in such a short period of time.
He was very observant to my needs and would often help me even before I opened my mouth.
“We also found that we got along quite well and had the same life goals, which was why we decided to marry this year,” she said.
SG couple holds KFC-themed wedding
Wanting to fulfil her dream of having KFC at her wedding, Wong contacted KFC in October to ask if they could send “small trinkets”.
To her delight, the fast food chain not only agreed to participate, but also sponsored half the food and provided a KFC-themed photo booth backdrop and fried chicken bouquet.
On Nov 26, Wong and Xie held their wedding along with more than 60 relatives and friends at a ballroom in the SAFRA Clubhouse in Choa Chu Kang.
Needless to say, Wong said guests were “shocked” when they walked into the hall and saw all the KFC-themed decor.
“They were like [wondering], ‘What’s happening?'”, she recounted.
Was paralysed neck down
Wong, who works as a part-time lecturer, also shared with Mothership how she became wheelchair-bound since 2012.
“When I was 17, I had a very bad headache which caused me to fall sick and be admitted to the hospital.
“When I woke up, I was completely paralysed neck down and the doctor later told me I had congenital spinal arteriovenous malformation, a condition involving incorrectly formed blood vessels, where one of actually burst,” she said.
For the next eight years, Wong had several spinal surgeries and her condition finally stabilised when doctors found a procedure to do so in 2016. Despite the recovery, Wong still stays in her wheelchair.
She also added that Xie was aware of her condition and has been very “empathetic and understanding”.
We wish the couple a long and happy marriage in the years ahead!
