Scalpers Are Apparently Selling Viral Setapak Stinky Tofu For RM20 Online, Far From Its Original Price Of RM5.50

Even stinky tofu isn't spared from scalpers.
If you’ve ever been to Setapak, you would have probably come across an elderly uncle who sells stinky tofu next to the Wangsa Maju LRT station.

The man behind the stall, who’s simply known as “Uncle” to loyal customers, has been in business for 16 years and often has long lines of customers who would wait for hours just to get their hands on the delicacy.

Unfortunately, his stall has since been targeted by scalpers who reportedly mass bought packets of stinky tofu and sold it on Xiaohongshu at exorbitant prices.

According to Sin Chew Daily, a netizen took to Xiaohongshu to warn others of scalpers who allegedly bought tons of stinky tofu from “Uncle” and sold it for RM20 per box, which is three times more than the original price of RM5.50 for four pieces and RM13 per box.

In addition, the scalpers are also offering to line up in proxy for those who may be lazy to wait for hours.

Furthermore, a comment written by a frequent customer alleged that someone once bought 300 pieces of stinky tofu and sold it for RM20 upfront, prompting “Uncle” to confront the scalper.

The netizen expressed outrage over the matter and called upon others not to purchase stinky tofu from scalpers as “Uncle” doesn’t earn much and spent much blood, sweat and tears in the business.

She also suggested in the post that “Uncle” limit the number of stinky tofu per customer can buy in order to prevent scalpers from taking advantage of him.

The issue of scalping isn’t new in Malaysia, where watches and TnG cards have been prime targets:
