PAPAR – The Nurul Iman Sabindo mosque located near Taman Pantai Lok Kawi Lok was destroyed in a fire early this morning, reported Harian Metro.
This incident, which took place around 3:30am, saw the 297 square meter mosque losing at least 95% of its structure to the flames.
A spokesperson for the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JPBM) of Sabah said that a distress call was lodged at 3:38am.
He added that a total of 14 officers, rescuers and a team from the Emergency Service Assistance Unit were dispatched to the scene.
“Upon their arrival, they immediately began putting out the fire with two hoses measuring 100 meters long.
“The fire was later brought under control at 4:26 am,” he said in a statement today.
Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported and the rescue operation ended at 7:17am.
Further investigations into the cause of the fire is currently being carried out by JPBM’s forensic team.
