If you’re a tourist visiting a foreign country, you’d definitely want your visit to be pleasant and free from untoward incidents.
Sadly for one woman from China, she became a victim of sexual assault after a diving instructor allegedly molested her during her vacation in Semporna, Sabah.
Diving instructor allegedly molests China tourist
However, it later emerged that the kiss wasn’t requested by the tourist, thus making it a case of potential molestation.
To add on to the existing level of discomfort following the incident, the diving instructor allegedly harassed the tourist by sending her tons of text messages, saying that he wanted to “spend more time” with her and offered to rent a car for a romantic rendezvous.
As for the kissing incident, the instructor even told her to tell the agent that she was the one who asked to be kissed, much to her outrage.
Police arrest diving instructor
NST later reported that the female tourist lodged a police report about the incident before heading to the Tawau airport to catch a flight back home on Saturday (May 6).
This subsequently led to the arrest of the 27-year-old suspect, who worked as a freelance divemaster at a dive centre.
Semporna acting district police chief Assistant Superintendent Arif Abdul Razak said the case is currently being probed under Section 354 of Penal Code for assault or use of criminal force on a person with intent to outrage modesty.
He added the suspect will be remanded until Thursday (May 11) to assist in ongoing investigations.
Kudos to the police for nabbing the diving instructor and we hope no other tourists will have to go through the same thing!
