Malaysian comedian Ronny Chieng has recently made the country proud after he took to Instagram to announce that ‘The Daily Show’ had won an Emmy Award.
The 38-year-old US-based actor and TV host first joined the show as a correspondent back in 2015 and was elated to be part of the team which won Outstanding Talk Series at the 2024 Emmy Awards on Monday (Jan 15).
In an Instagram post, Chieng, who hails from Johor, expressed his sheer happiness over being part of an Emmy Award-winning team at ‘The Daily Show’.

Made a steady rise in fame
On Nov 21, 2023, Chieng was made guest host of ‘The Daily Show’ for the very first time, where he made an opening speech thanking the team for the opportunity while ‘roasting’ himself in the process.
“I am Ronny Chieng, and I am guest-hosting for one day only. Dreams do come true. I just want to thank the network for believing in me for 23 minutes only.”
Aside from his correspondent role at ‘The Daily Show’, Chieng has also appeared in several blockbuster movies, such as ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ and ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. He also has two standup comedy shows on Netflix too.
Despite making a name for himself in the US, Chieng is still very much a Malaysian boy, which he proudly showed in a clip posted on Malaysia Day 2017.
In the clip, he took out his Malaysian passport and said it was proof of his Malaysian-ness, adding, “What more proof do you need?”
Chieng also stated that he still frequently uses ‘lahs’ and ‘mehs’ in his conversations and said he “can still order like a pro at the kopitiam”.
