Not ordering seafood dishes for nasi kandar is often known as the ‘silent rule’ as it’s the simplest way to avoid a hole being burnt into one’s wallet.
A man in KL had the shock of his life after he discovered he was charged a hefty RM50 for a piece of prawn, leading netizens to question whether it was justified.
What receipt showed
According to a Threads post, the OP posted a photo of his nasi kandar meal and the receipt issued to him.
Based on the receipt, here was the breakdown:
- Nasi briyani kosong (RM9)
- Ayam bawang (RM14)
- Salted egg (RM2)
- Kobis (RM3.50)
- A piece of ‘Udang Goreng Tiger XL’ (RM50)

After an addition of 6% in Sales and Service Tax (SST), the final amount came to RM83.20.
The OP expressed surprise over the bill, saying he never expected a single piece of prawn to have the same value as a RM50 note.
He also alleged in the comment section that the stall did not put prices on display.

Reactions
Needless to say, many netizens expressed shock over the pricing, with one saying RM50 was the usual price for one kilogram of prawns, not a single piece.

Another said in jest that the OP was charged RM50 for the prawn as the stall owner had probably seen his wallet bursting with RN50 notes before urging him to lodge a complaint with the authorities.

Meanwhile, another reminded others to avoid ordering seafood at all costs unless they were feeling extra rich that day.
