Delivery riders play an important role when it comes to delivering food orders to customers who are unable to go out and buy it themselves, thus saving them the time and trouble.
While it’s expected of customers to pay riders a certain amount for the delivery, the rate is usually dependent on the distance involved in making the delivery or the number of items sent.
Rider charges M’sian woman RM50 delivery fee
Taking to Facebook to share her shock over how one rider asked for an exorbitant delivery fee, a woman named Mardhiah Mohamad wrote that her mother was feeling unwell and had asked her to go buy some food.
She then called for a rider who was willing to not only buy the food, but deliver it to her mother as well. However, when all was said and done, she was shocked to see the delivery fee the rider had charged her for.
According to the conversation she had with the rider on WhatsApp, Mardhiah not only had to pay RM7.50 for the meal, but also a hefty RM50 delivery fee for calling for a rider during “heavy rain season”.
To further shed light on why she felt the fee was ridiculous, Mardhiah revealed that the distance from the stall in Kota Bahru to her home near Kubang Kerian was only 8km.
“Is this the standard price for a runner near the Kota Bahru area? Please give me your thoughts on this,” she wrote.
‘So expensive!’
Naturally, netizens were shocked to see how brazen the rider was in charging RM50 for a short-distance delivery and gave their reactions to the post.
‘If RM50 was for carrying many items, then it’s worth it. But if it’s just for a packet of rice then it’s really shocking.’
‘You’re buying a runner or rice? Even the rice is cheaper!’
One netizen suggested that Mardhiah turn to Grab or Lalamove next time instead of looking for a rider.
