He was arrested today.
A university student has come under fire for scamming Cancer Survivors Malaysia (CSM) into raising RM5,000 for his education, only to spend the funds on online gambling later.

Zuraini Kamal, the chairperson of CSM, told Berita Harian that the student, who identified himself as Lim, approached her claiming he needed financial help for tuition fees.

Lim, in his 20s, said his family couldn’t afford the fees, and without the money, he faced being expelled from university.

Moved by his story, Zuraini shared his bank account on Facebook, appealing to friends and supporters for help.

Lim soon informed her that he had received RM1,176 in donations. To raise the remaining amount, Zuraini reached out to a Penang-based NGO.

During the conversation, the NGO revealed that they had previously raised over RM30,000 for the same student.

However, Lim had not used the money for his studies but was instead involved in online gambling.

When confronted, Lim denied the accusations and threatened to harm himself. Zuraini demanded that the money raised through her post be refunded to the donors, many of whom were CSM members.

Filed a police report & arrested after

Zuraini added that Lim and his father called her over 30 times, apologizing and asking her to remove the Facebook post.

Upon contacting the university, she confirmed that Lim was still enrolled and aware of his fraudulent behavior.

To prevent other organizations from falling victim to Lim’s schemes, Zuraini filed a police report at the Kubang Pasu District Police Headquarters (IPD).

She also mentioned that Lim had used similar tactics before, falsely claiming his father was disabled (OKU) and that his mother worked in a market.

According to China Press, Lim was taken into custody by police this morning at 8.28 am. He has since been brought to the Jitra Magistrate’s Court for further proceedings.
