In October of 2023, we reported of the National Service Training Programme (PLKN) making a comeback after undergoing a four-year hiatus since its suspension in 2018.
Now, the programme, dubbed as PLKN 3.0, will officially be launched at the start of next year, as per a report by NST.
PLKN 3.0 to launch on Jan 2025
According to Deputy Defence Minister Adly Zahari, he said PLKN 3.0 will kickstart in stages starting Jan 2025.
Under the first phase, participants will join the programme on a small scale before it’s being expanded in the subsequent phase in June.
The government has allocated RM50 million and will launch the programme with its first intake in early January next year.
“Around 500 participants will be placed in two camps before PLKN 3.0 is rolled out more broadly with a larger number of participants in June,” he said.
Under PLKN 3.0, Malaysians aged between 16 and 35 from among students in Form Four, Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) leavers and students from institutions of higher learning will be selected for the programme.
Adly added that 13 army camps have been identified as NS 3.0 locations so far and that they are expected to be fully utilised to house participants once PLKN 3.0 is fully implemented by 2026.
For the time being, two army camps located at Kuala Lumpur and Pahang respectively will be used to welcome the first batch of PLKN 3.0 participants.
