Starting Sept 30, RON95 petrol will be fixed at RM1.99 per litre under the Budi Madani (BUDI95) subsidy program, with Malaysians able to enjoy it via a simple MyKad verification.
As soon as the announcement was made, many Malaysians began asking the same questions: Will the MyKad verification process be troublesome? Does the verification process have to be done at the counter with the staff?
Shell MD demonstrates the process
To address these concerns, Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd Managing Director Shairan Huzani Husain shared a video on social media showing how quick and simple the process actually is.
In the video, he first tapped his bank card on the payment terminal as usual to start the transaction.

Then, he inserted his MyKad into the same machine, just like how people have been using their BonusLink loyalty cards for years.
Available via payment apps as well
On another note, Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali shared that additional methods, such as oil company payment apps, can also be used.
This means the public need not worry about facing difficulties when buying subsidised petrol, with examples including Petronas’ Setel app and the Shell app.
