Good news for Malaysian motorists — the government is set to reduce RON95 petrol prices to RM1.99 per litre by the end of this month through a targeted subsidy system.
But before you celebrate at the pump, there’s one important thing you need to check: your MyKad.

MyKad check needed for petrol subsidy
According to Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution, the new subsidy system will only work if your MyKad chip can be read properly.
That’s because your MyKad will be used to verify your identity when you pump petrol under the new targeted subsidy scheme.
So, if your MyKad chip is faulty or unreadable, you might miss out on the cheaper fuel price.
Alhamdulillah YAB Perdana Menteri bakal tunaikan janji kepada rakyat Malaysia, Insya-Allah hujung bulan ini harga petrol RON95 akan TURUN ke RM1.99 seliter melalui subsidi bersasar.

What to do if your MyKad chip isn’t working
Don’t panic. If your MyKad chip is damaged, you can simply head to any National Registration Department (JPN) office or counter nationwide.
Don’t wait until the last minute
The government has advised everyone to check their MyKad early so you can enjoy the RM1.99 petrol price without any hiccups.
With the subsidy set to roll out soon, make sure your MyKad is in good shape to avoid any last-minute stress.
