Following a viral clip of a child who was nearly knocked down by a car along Jalan Haji Mohamad Ali near Sitiawan, the Manjung Municipal Council (MPM) has successfully captured the dog responsible for chasing the hapless kid.
The harrowing incident was first captured in a 20-second video yesterday (Apr 28) at around 9am, where it showed two children dashing across a busy road while frantically trying to escape from a brown dog.
According to NST, the MPM’s Stray Animals, Licensing and Enforcement Unit acted promptly, capturing the dog under the strictures of the Dog Licensing Bylaw (Manjung Municipal Council) 1993.
It was discovered upon further investigation that the dog was not a stray, as it was registered with a permit from MPM.
It also found that the owner of the dog which chased the children “had failed to take reasonable steps to ensure that the animal did not cause trouble to neighbours, incessant barking, or take steps to ensure that it did not wander outside its owner’s premises”.
In light of the serious nature of the incident, the captured dog could potentially face euthanasia under the Animal Welfare Act 2015 (Act 772), should it be deemed dangerous.
The determination of the dog’s fate will be conducted by the Veterinary Services Department (JPV).
MPM will forward all relevant documentation and evidence to the JPV for a thorough evaluation and to decide the appropriate course of action.
Aside from the aforementioned canine, the council also detained two other dogs on the same day at 11 am for similar infractions of the by-law.
