The existence of stray dogs in residential areas has been a controversial topic that has polarised the community over safety and animal welfare concerns.
In a nerve-wracking incident near the Lumut Customs Complex in Sitiawan, a young child narrowly escaped a potentially fatal accident after being chased by a stray dog.
The dramatic dashcam footage posted in the Facebook group “KOMUNITI WE LOVE MANJUNG (KWLM)” has reignited debates about handling the increasing number of stray animals in populated areas.
The video shows the terrified child sprinting across the highway, desperately trying to escape the stray dog.
The child barely misses being hit by a Perodua Myvi and falls onto the road.
Miraculously, a following vehicle, identified as a Proton Wira, managed to swerve at the last moment, avoiding a potentially fatal accident.
The child, visibly shaken but unharmed, was seen quickly getting up and running away from the scene.
The drivers of the Proton Wira and a nearby motorcyclist paused their journey to ensure the child’s safety, highlighting the community’s quick response to the dangerous situation.
The video post has garnered 4.3k shares, 1.3k reactions and 1.4k comments as of writing.

The incident has sparked debate among netizens in the comment section. Some of them were urging the local authorities to keep the stray dogs where they should be.
“The Manjung Municipal Council can probably take the dogs in that area.”
Some netizens voiced out to the animal lovers community to take care of the stray dogs.
“Animal lovers, please collect all these dogs and keep them in your houses and rooms before all the dogs that are troubling the community are eliminated.”
Meanwhile, many netizens pointed out that the stray dogs wouldn’t attack or chase the children out of the blue, they were normally disturbed by the children first.
“But we also need to watch because the kids are good at teasing the dogs… when the dogs chase, it’s the dogs’ fault… when they tease the dogs, nobody takes action… from what I mostly see…”
“Sometimes the kids who get chased by dogs are the ones who bother and tease them. I’ve walked to school through Taman Cantek filled with stray dogs since I was young, and they’ve never chased me.
“At most, they bark like crazy, come a bit closer, sniff me, and then just walk away. Every day I walked to school so I could smoke cigarettes and relax. I did this for months. By the first month, 6-7 dogs would follow me to the point where people asked if those were my dogs.
