Passenger Throws Coins At China Southern Airlines Plane, Flight Gets Delayed For 3.5 Hours

Itchy hands.
While you’d expect flight passengers to uphold some level of manners when boarding the plane, there are those who simply can’t keep their hands to themselves and have to get involved in shenanigans.

A China Southern Airlines flight was forced to be delayed for hours after a passenger tossed coins towards the aircraft, causing massive inconvenience for everyone.

According to a statement by the airline, passengers were in the midst of boarding the plane using a boarding vehicle when several maintenance workers saw one of the passengers throwing coins at the plane.

Two coins were later discovered near the aircraft’s belly, leaving authorities with no choice but to delay the flight for a safety check.

The flight, which was supposed to take off at 10am, ended up getting delayed to 1.29pm after the inspection was complete. Thankfully, the plane landed safely at Beijing Daxing International Airport at 4pm.

The company confirmed that the passenger was later handed over to police for further action.

It also urged passengers to always abide by civil aviation rules and to avoid committing actions which may endanger flight safety.

Not the first coin-tossing incident

China Daily further reported that this isn’t the first time passengers have been caught tossing coins at airplanes.

Back in April 2021, a GX Airlines flight was forced to be cancelled after several coins wrapped in red paper were found on the ground. A passenger later admitted to throwing them to pray for blessings.

Four years prior, another flight was delayed for five hours after an elderly couple were seen throwing coins at the plane’s engine as a way to pray for safety.
