PAS Wishes Happy Christmas To Malaysian Christians

This marks a shift from PAS's 2018 directive discouraging Muslim participation in Christmas celebrations.

In a surprising and heartening move, the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) has extended heartfelt wishes to all Christians in Malaysia for a Merry Christmas.

Takiyuddin Hassan, the secretary-general of PAS, expressed the party’s desire for the festive season to be celebrated in a “safe and harmonious environment,” fostering unity and paving the way for “better and meaningful days ahead.”

Takiyuddin advocated for the preservation and nurturing of the existing diversity in the country, considering it a treasure that adds value to the quality of Malaysians’ togetherness.

Despite being an Islamic party, PAS celebrates and embraces diversity, viewing it not only as a special feature of society but also as a core tenet of Islamic teachings that encompasses all races, cultures, and religions.

“As an Islamic party, PAS celebrates and is always open to such diversity.

“Not only as a special feature of our society but also as the core of Islamic teachings which embraces such bonds of our great human family, inclusive of all races, cultures and religions, legally and honourably,” he said.

A shift from controversial past

This inclusive stance marks a departure from PAS’s controversial position in 2018 when a party leader discouraged Muslims from participating in Christmas celebrations.

Khalil Hadi, then PAS Youth chief, argued that Christmas contradicted Islamic teachings, citing theological differences about the status of Jesus in Christianity and Islam.
