A parent’s firm response after finding out their child had been vaping has gone viral online, with many Malaysians praising the move as a serious lesson done right.
The post, shared on Threads, included a screenshot of a parent explaining how they handled the situation after their child was allegedly caught vaping.
Police report made after child allegedly caught vaping
According to the screenshot, the parent said their child was caught vaping and that they asked the school’s discipline teacher to take action.
The parent also claimed that after returning home, they disciplined the child again before bringing them to the police station, where officers gave the child a warning.
But the parent did not stop there.
The parent said they also lodged a police report against the vape shop that allegedly sold vape products to their child, who was under 18.
They then claimed they personally handed the report to the shop owner.
As a result, the parent said their child stopped vaping, stopped mixing with friends who vape, and the vape shop eventually closed down.
Netizens praise parents’ firm action
The post quickly caught the attention of Malaysians online, with the original poster joking that parents like this deserved a “Tokoh Maal Hijrah” award, normally given to respected individuals for their contributions to society, religion, education, leadership, or community work.
Many netizens praised the parent for taking the issue seriously, especially the part where action was allegedly taken against the vape shop.
One netizen wrote that vape shops selling to underage customers were irresponsible, adding that they should have checked the customer’s IC before selling anything.
Another said the parents’ action not only helps their own child but may have also stopped other students from getting vape products from the same shop.
“Salute to the parent!” the netizen wrote.
A netizen even said parents like this should be celebrated during school PIBG meetings.
