When people visit Malaysia, one of the first questions they usually ask is: “Where should I eat?”
And honestly, Malaysians know this question is serious business.
You can ask five different people and get five different answers, but that is also what makes our food scene so fun. Everyone has their own favourite nasi lemak spot, chicken rice shop, fried chicken place, or hidden gem they swear by.
Now, Grab is hoping to make that search a little easier for both tourists and locals through its GrabFood 5-Star Eats food guide, which highlights highly rated local eateries across Malaysia.
A food guide rated by everyday Malaysians
The idea is quite simple.

Instead of relying on one person’s opinion, GrabFood 5-Star Eats is built from ratings by millions of everyday Malaysians nationwide.
So when tourists are wondering where to eat, they can use the guide to discover food spots that locals have already tried, rated, and recommended.
The guide, which is endorsed by Tourism Malaysia, features a mix of local restaurants, heritage eateries, and cultural food spots across the country.
Basically, it is like asking Malaysians where to makan, but through the Grab app.
Grab is also supporting Visit Malaysia 2026
This is part of Grab’s effort to support Visit Malaysia 2026 by helping travellers discover Malaysia through food.

From a tourist’s point of view, food is often one of the easiest ways to understand a country. In Malaysia’s case, one meal can already tell you a lot about our culture, history, and how much we love arguing about which stall is the best.
Through the guide, Grab hopes to connect travellers with local food spots that Malaysians already know and love, while also helping local eateries get discovered by more people.
Grab also launched a travel series with Shahril Hamdan and “Video Kembara Malaysia” by Sofyank
To bring the idea to life beyond just a food guide, Grab also launched two travel-focused contents during the exclusive screening: Rakan Grab Jelajah Malaysia on KS Lagi and Sofyank’s latest CGI travel film “Video Kembara Malaysia”.

Hosted by Shahril Hamdan, Rakan Grab Jelajah Malaysia is a 3-part travel series that features three regional Grab partners from Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam, together with three Malaysian Grab partners, as they explore local cultures across Kuala Lumpur, Terengganu, and Sabah.
As they travel, the episodes also bring viewers to several GrabFood 5-Star Eats merchants featured in the series, including Village Park Restaurant, Hameediyah Restaurant at Jalan Bukit Bintang, Restoran Mat Binjai at Jalan Sultan Sulaiman, Borenos Fried Chicken in Asia City, and A1 Chicken Rice at Lintas Plaza.
Grab also teamed up with Malaysian digital creator Sofyank, who produced a CGI travel video showcasing Malaysia’s sights, sounds, and food in a more fun and visual way.
So instead of only telling tourists where to eat, the series and CGI content show how food, people, and local culture come together in different parts of Malaysia.
Sofyank gives Malaysia the CGI touch
Grab also teamed up with Malaysian digital creator Sofyank, who is known for his creative CGI videos.
For this campaign, Sofyank produced “Video Kembara Malaysia”a travel video that takes viewers through Malaysia’s sights, sounds, and food using CGI effects.
Think of it as a fast, fun, and very visual way of showing what Malaysia has to offer, from places to visit to things to makan.
Even Grab drivers are part of the experience
Another interesting part of the campaign involves selected Grab driver-partners.

They attended the Kursus Mesra course, a training programme by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture that helps frontliners, including Grab driver-partners, create a more welcoming experience for tourists and travellers in Malaysia.
And it makes sense.
For many tourists, a driver may be one of the first locals they meet after arriving in the country. A friendly ride, a good food recommendation, or even a small local tip can make the whole travel experience feel warmer.
International Tourists can also check out the VMY2026 Travel Pass
Besides the 5-Star Eats guide, international tourists can also access the Visit Malaysia 2026 Travel Pass through the Grab app.

The pass allows international travellers to unlock promos and savings on GrabCar and GrabFood while they explore Malaysia, making it easier for them to get around and try more local food along the way.
So whether you are a tourist looking for your first plate of nasi lemak, or a Malaysian trying to prove to your overseas friend that our food really is that good, the Grab app now has one more way to help you decide where to eat next.
Readers and tourists can open the Grab app to check out the GrabFood 5-Star Eats guide, while international travellers can also view travel promotions through the Visit Malaysia 2026 Travel Pass here.
