Parking violations are a common issue in city centres, but how authorities enforce these rules can sometimes raise eyebrows.
A recent video showing a man’s frustration over the clamping of his Perodua Bezza while expensive cars were allegedly spared has sparked public debate, questioning whether enforcement measures are truly fair.
In response to the viral video, Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) issued a statement on November 11, 2024, clarifying the enforcement actions taken by their team around Jalan Telawi 1, 3, and 4 in Bangsar.
DBKL assured the public that all actions were carried out according to strict and consistent Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), with no special treatment for any vehicle or individual.
13 vehicles clamped in total
DBKL revealed through a Facebook post that 13 vehicles were clamped during the operation, including the Perodua Bezza featured in the viral clip. The clamping occurred at 1:09 PM, and the clamp was removed at 1:30 PM near Q Bistro on Jalan Telawi 4.
The city hall further clarified that their SOP prohibits clamping vehicles with drivers inside. In such cases, enforcement officers instructed drivers to move their cars away from the location.
Firm commitment to fairness
DBKL emphasised its commitment to transparency and fairness in enforcement actions.
“DBKL emphasises that we firmly uphold the principle of fairness without ‘double standards.’ All enforcement actions are transparent, firm, and aim to ensure the comfort and safety of city residents without prejudice,” the statement read.
