Getting arrested by the police is a situation everyone doesn’t want to find themselves in. As such, some are willing to go to great lengths to evade capture by the authorities, sometimes ending in tragedy.
This was sadly the case for a Nigerian man, who plunged to his death while attempting to avoid being nabbed by police in Penang.
Nigerian falls from 16th floor and dies during escape attempt in Penang
According to NST, the incident took place at a a condominium in Batu Uban last night (Jan 21), where the Nigerian man fell from the 16th floor and later died.
Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Razlam Ab Hamid told the English daily that police received information about drug activities taking place and raided the condo at around 6pm.
When we knocked on the door, a man, believed to be a Nigerian, came out. When he realised it was the police, he went back in again and locked the grille door.
“Police broke into the unit but couldn’t locate the man who opened the door earlier. They then arrested another man, also believed to be a Nigerian, who was inside the unit,” he said.
Razlam said police conducted a search in the area, where they eventually found the body of the man who opened the door earlier at the condominium’s ground floor.
Drugs found inside unit
Another Nigerian man, who’s believed to be the friend of the victim, was arrested by police as he tried to flee the scene at the 8th floor of the condominium.
Razlam said syabu and ecstasy were found at the unit and the case is now being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
As for the victim’s untimely demise, it was classified as sudden death (SDR).
