Cameron Highlands has long been a popular destination for locals and tourists alike during the holiday season. Sadly, it’s has increasingly become less affordable as time goes by.
A man recently took to TikTok to rant about how he spent more than RM1,400 during his three-day trip at Cameron Highlands, which has left him deeply upset.
Spent RM1,470 during Cameron Highlands trip
In the now-deleted 3-minute video posted by @pokteh_miskin on TikTok, he recounted how the family trip was ruined by unexpected expenses which he never saw coming.
As an anecdote, he mentioned about the food prices being extremely high and never remained constant.
I bought a Roti John for RM9 on a Friday, but when I went to buy it again the next day, it became RM12.
‘Furthermore, I once ordered three plates of rice, tomyam, fried egg, kangkung belacan, and a few drinks, and it cost me around RM85,” he said.
To add insult to injury, the OP said that the homestay was advertised on TikTok for RM221 per night, but the price was changed to RM280 per night as he had booked it on a Friday.
As a result, he was forced to leave the homestay a day earlier as he couldn’t bear the costs.
All in all, the entire trip cost him a hefty RM1,470, something which the OP never expected.
RM1,470 gone just like that in two days. I didn’t buy anything except for a few strawberries.
“When I visited Cameron Highlands at the beginning of last year, it only cost me around RM600 for two nights,” he lamented.
Towards the end of the clip, he pleaded with business owners at Cameron Highlands not to take advantage of visitors by charging exorbitant prices.
Netizens shocked & outraged
The video has since received 2.1 million views five days after it was posted and gained plenty of attention from netizens.
‘Thank you for the information. I like to go sightseeing at Cameron Highlands but if it’s this expensive, I won’t go.’
Another shared how he was fleeced during his trip to Cameron Highlands: ‘I had bee hoon soup, chicken, 4 cups of teh O ais…and it cost me RM85. I wanted to complain but my wife said it was okay so I kept quiet.’
When WeirdKaya reached out to the OP, he said that he has filed a report to the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNK) for further investigation.
