For those who often frequent mamak or nasi kandar stalls, ordering seafood is one of the most expensive options out there and most wouldn’t opt for it unless it’s for a special occasion.
A local singer found himself on the receiving end of brickbats after he threatened to lodge a report against a mamak stall for charging him RM10 for several prawns.
‘Crazy pricing!’
In a Threads post by Farhan Maarob, he wrote in the caption requesting the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) to investigate a mamak stall for profiteering.
This comes after he was charged RM10 for seven pieces of prawns he ordered at the stall located in Cheras.
He was also charged RM 2 for white rice, RM6 for fried chicken, and RM4.80 for iced Milo. This brought the bill to a total of RM24.15 after a 6% Sales and Service Tax (SST) was included.
However, Farhan couldn’t seem to get over the fact that he was charged RM10 for the prawns, writing:
The pricing’s crazy…I got charged RM10 for seven small pieces of prawns! When we told the staff that we’d be making a report, the cashier said, ‘Report, report lah!’“
Farhan also said he’d be holding a press conference to address the issue, but it’s not known whether he carried through with it.
Backlash
Unfortunately for Farhan, not many netizens stood on his side and instead turned on him with harsh comments.
One told him that if he couldn’t afford eating prawns, he shouldn’t have ordered it in the first place.
Another questioned Farhan whether he had personally bought prawns himself to have an idea of the current market price before telling him not to “embarrass all the males”.
Another sarcastically said this incident was why he never befriends those from the B40 community.
