A local man is sure to be thanking his lucky stars after the car he was driving fell right off a flyover in Melaka this morning (Sept 11).
Not only did he survive the fall, but he came out from the accident with minor injuries to his body and right leg.
Myvi falls 30m from flyover after driver falls asleep
According to a statement by Central Melaka District police chief Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit, he said preliminary investigation found that the 52-year-old man was driving towards Limbongan from the city centre in the 5am incident.
Upon arriving at the location, the victim is believed to have fallen asleep, causing the Myvi to veer off course and crash into the road barrier before falling 30m off the Syed Abdul Aziz flyover.
“He suffered injuries to his body and right leg and was taken to Melaka Hospital for treatment,” he said.
Patit added police are looking for witnesses and the case is being investigated under Rule 10 of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 (Rule 10 LN 166/59).
Meanwhile, Melaka Tengah Fire and Rescue Station Operations Commander, Senior Fire Officer Abd Rahim Ismail, said they received a call about the accident at 5.09am.
Eight firefighters, including three from the Emergency Medical Services Team, and a fire truck were dispatched to the scene and arrived at 5.16am.
He added the victim was subsequently rescued and handed over to medical personnel for further action.
