Former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin is expected to be charged with sedition tomorrow (Aug 27) at the Gua Musang Sessions Court.
This was confirmed by  Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, who said that the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman will face charges under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act when contacted by NST.
Muhyiddin 1st ex-PM to be charged with sedition
The sedition charges come after Muhyiddin allegedly made defamatory remarks about former Agong Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah while giving a speech during a Nenggiri by-election ceramah in Kelantan on Aug 15.
This will also make him the first former prime minister in Malaysian history to be slapped with sedition charges.
In the speech, Muhyiddin claimed that he was denied the opportunity to become the 10th prime minister despite having the support of 115 members of Parliament (MP) after the 15th General Elections.
However, he didn’t mention the part where the Agong had offered him the suggestion to form a coalition government with Pakatan Harapan, something which he flatly rejected.
Needless to say, the Pagoh MP’s speech ruffled feathers within the Pahang royal family, with the Crown Prince of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah calling for action to be taken against Muhyiddin for twisting the facts in order to cast doubt on his father’s impartiality.
His (Muhyiddin) statement also looks immature, it seems as if he still cannot accept that he was not appointed as the prime minister.
“This statement he issued is also very dangerous because it openly incites the people to lose faith in the institution of Malay Rulers and divides the people,” he said in a statement.
