Shared by TikTok user @ben.ismail_, the video depicted a foreign worker, a contract cleaner, taking a break from his duties.
What struck the netizens’ hearts was his simple meal, just plain rice and water.
“I saw him eating plain rice with just water,” the OP explained in the caption.
When asked why such a modest meal, the worker humbly shared his desire to save money for his family.
He also mentioned that while talking to the workers, he witnessed them even picking up spilled rice and eating it.
“Despite eating like this, they still smiled. Mashallah, may they continue to be blessed with Allah’s sustenance. Amen,” the OP wrote.
Speaking exclusively to WeirdKaya, the OP recounted how he encountered the foreign worker during his monitoring duties in Klang.
He emphasized that his intention in sharing the video was not to exploit the worker’s situation or make it go viral, but rather to inspire gratitude and empathy.
“My goal in posting the video was to raise awareness within myself about the true meaning of gratitude. In times of difficulty, there are others who face even greater challenges.” the OP expressed.
