Mamaks are an integral part of Malaysian culture as they are the go-to places for comfort food that all Malaysians love such as maggi goreng and teh tarik.
However, it’s also an open secret that mamaks aren’t exactly the cleanest places to have your meal, where it’s vulnerable to a rat or roach infestation.

Maggots found inside fried chicken
In a 46-second video posted by MALAYSIA MOST VIRAL on Twitter, it showed a male patron at a mamak restaurant stumbling upon possibly the most disgusting discovery of his life.
In the clip, the customer pries apart a half-eaten piece of fried chicken, only to reveal several maggots squirming right in the centre. Yuck!

To make things worse, he didn’t notice the slugs until he was almost done eating the fried chicken!
Needless to say, it left the customer sickened yet helpless, who wrote in the caption: “Disgusting. Lots of maggots inside the chicken. Just accept it lah, if it is already in the stomach.”
However, the clip doesn’t reveal the location of the mamak restaurant.

Netizens call for a boycott
This unsettling clip has since left Malaysians disgusted and questioning the hygiene standards of mamak restaurants in the country.
One wrote of a friend who would always suffer a diarrhea after having a meal at the mamak.

Some swore not to eat at mamak stalls again and called for others to boycott as a sign of protest against the failure to maintain the level of hygiene.

However, a netizen claimed that the boycott wouldn’t last long, given the fact that Malaysians are still willing to wait for an hour at a famous mamak stall.
